Postpartum & Lactation & Postnatal Bodywork
Nurturing, Integrating, and Educating
families during their magical time after birth.
About Junko w. ziemba, PCD(DONA), CLEC
I was born & raised in Kanagawa, Japan and came to the United States in 1999 as a college student. To study abroad was sort of a wild idea to most of my friends and family in Japan as English is my second language, but I earned a B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Oregon (Eugene is such a lovely and free place to be !!) and established my career as a designer in California. At that time I fell in love with the love of my life and had gained so much confidence and a sense of accomplishment.....
While working in a corporate world pushing myself to meet project deadlines and sales figures over a decade, I did not think for a second that making a family would be any harder than that. Well, I had no clue. I struggled with fertility & high risk pregnancies, and was overwhelmed by the unpredictability of a newborn child and postpartum life. My perspective shifted entirely after I gave birth to my first child. Parenting had become the most challenging yet most rewarding gift I have ever been given.
Through my journey of becoming a mother, I became completely fascinated by how much a woman transforms during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, both mentally and physically. As euphoric as the experience was, there were unexpected challenges I wasn’t prepared for such as breastfeeding and sleep. There was also the realization of the lack of support for mothers in our current society. This, plus expensive healthcare and non-mandated or very short maternity/family leave, lead me to become a doula and an advocate of supporting new mothers and their families.
Today supporting new families has become my greatest passion. As a Postpartum Doula, my mission is to coach mothers and their family to transition into the new routine with a newborn filled with excitement and challenges as smoothly and mindfully as possible. I want to help new families breathe through chaotic times to find joy..... Whatever the families' goal might be, I would be honored to serve them during precious and sensitive time.
